Taking over an existing food business
Step 1 - Search request
We recommended that the pospective purchaser of any food business requests a Property search: health and environment search request.
The health and environment search request includes:
- a search of Planning and Development Directorate records
- an inspection of the premises
- a report on the current condition of the premises in respect of compliance with legislated standards, and
- information on transfer of health and/or environmental licences.
Step 2 – Application for Food Business Licence
Submit a Food Business Licence application
We will contact you to arrange a time for a final inspection prior to your business commencing operation. You will be notified when a decision has been made. If compliant, a Food Business Licence will be issued. The premises will be inspected on a regular basis to ensure ongoing compliance.
Step 3 – Nomination of a Food Safety Supervisor
You are required to nominate at least one food safety officer with 30 days of the issue of a Food Business Licence. You must provide evidence of the attainment of the minimum food safety supervisor competencies prescribed by Queensland Health.
For further information about this requirement, refer to Queensland Health's Food Safety Supervisor fact sheet. Training is availble online and in person. Contact us for a list of registered training providers.
