Taking over an existing food business

Step 1 - Search request

We recommended that the pospective purchaser of any food business requests a Property search: health and environment search request.

The health and environment search request includes:

  • a search of Planning and Development Directorate records
  • an inspection of the premises
  • a report on the current condition of the premises in respect of compliance with legislated standards, and
  • information on transfer of health and/or environmental licences.

Step 2 – Application for Food Business Licence

Submit a Food Business Licence application

We will contact you to arrange a time for a final inspection prior to your business commencing operation. You will be notified when a decision has been made. If compliant, a Food Business Licence will be issued.  The premises will be inspected on a regular basis to ensure ongoing compliance.

Step 3 – Nomination of a Food Safety Supervisor

You are required to nominate at least one food safety officer with 30 days of the issue of a Food Business Licence.  You must provide evidence of the attainment of the minimum food safety supervisor competencies prescribed by Queensland Health.
