Open Space and Recreation Plan
The Gympie region provides a unique and diverse environment, providing significant opportunities for outdoor sport and recreation opportunities for both local residents and visitors alike. While the area already provides a great variety of open space and recreation opportunities, Council has looked to the future with ways to enhance the associated infrastructure to provide additional recreation, tourism and economic benefits. This is an important step forward to reinforce the Gympie region as the natural place to live, work and play.
The Action Plan contained within the Open Space and Recreation Plan outlines short, medium and long term priorities for Council, and identifies areas of focus on the following categories:
- policies and documents
- facility feasibility
- business planning and facilities management
- facility maintenance, upgrades and renewal
- club development, education and training
- communication, promotion and marketing
- programming and physical activity.
These will deliver practical on-the-ground solutions for the sport and recreation needs of the region's residents and visitors alike.
Gympie Regional Council adopted the Open Space and Recreation Plan [PDF 10MB] at its Ordinary Meeting held on 7 December 2016. The initial draft was produced taking into consideration the needs of the community in line with existing demand and future growth. It also acknowledged the need to provide parks and open spaces that focus on quality rather than quantity with regard to community needs. There was a public consultation period held and all submissions received were considered and incorporated into the final Open Space and Recreation Plan subsequently adopted by Council.
