Gympie Regional Gallery’s newest exhibition ‘Daughters Opera – ‘The Making of’ a digital reimagination’ is the world premiere of the Daughters Opera documentary following the making of the international performance piece.

On display at the Gympie Regional Gallery from Wednesday 10 November until Saturday, 4 December 2021.

Join Australian Librettist Tammy Brennan, and the all-women cast and crew from across India and abroad, and experience the documentary filmed by screen-based artist Kate Blackmore. This digital exhibition showcases an interdisciplinary opera collaboration with the issue of gender violence at its heart.

The exhibition amplifies local voices, places and spaces on the topic of gendered violence, and ongoing equality for women and girls. Gallery audiences can enter the world of the opera, walk the bustling New Delhi markets, hear interviews of the cast and crew and take part in the creative process with Indian director Anuradha Kapur, choreographer Victoria Hunt, composer David Chisholm, and scenographer Deepan Sivaraman.

With a mission to connect, educate and empower audiences, ‘Daughters Opera – ‘The Making of’ a digital reimagination’ provides a thought-provoking experience driven by a social justice provocative. It transforms conversations and ideas around gendered violence, and addresses contemporary traumas against women and girls collectively in the 21st century. This exhibition is both harrowing and inspiring.

Join Tammy Brennan on Saturday 13 November at 1.30pm for a free public floor talk. Registrations via Eventfinda.
