Media release: Emergency Services Expo
2 February 2018
Residents will be shown how to prepare for a disaster event at Council’s Emergency Services Expo this month.
Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Mick Curran said the Expo aims to increase community resilience in times of natural disasters.
“The Gympie region has been challenged over the years with the recurrence of significant floods, and it is important that we equip residents with the information they need in order to be prepared,” Mayor Curran said.
“Emergency services will have a variety of information stalls and displays for the public and there will be live demonstrations.”
One of the highlights of the day will be the water bombing demonstration from McDermott Aviation who will drop water across a large area of trees.
“This is going to be a fun and interactive event for the whole family,” said Mayor Curran.
“We’ll have everything from fire trucks and wildlife warriors to fire and chainsaw demonstrations.”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to win a number of prizes by completing an Expo Passport on the day.
The Expo will be held at the AFL Grounds in Gympie on Sunday, 25 February, 2018 from 9am to 1pm.
The Emergency Services Expo is fully funded by a grant from Get Ready Queensland.
