Works on Deep Creek Bridge
The Gympie Times
What specific work will be completed on the Deep Creek Bridge and who is doing the work?
This is part of the track and bridges contact with CR Rail. The work includes remediating structural components such as piles and girders plus installing new bridge sleepers and then re-installing the rails.
How much will it cost? Is it on budget? What is the breakdown of council and state funds?
Yes the project is on budget.
The work is part of the $11,500,783.00 track and bridges budget. The full Rattler Railway project budget of $14,500,783.00 includes state funding to the amount of $ 7,000,000.00. With Council funding, the remaining $7,500,783.00, as endorsed at Council in December 2017.
When will it be completed? When can the public expect works to be completed on the Bridge?
Deep Creek Bridge will be complete by the end of February.
What is the cost to the ratepayer for the works on Deep Creek bridge?
As this part of the full tracks and bridges budget, Council are not able to give itemized breakdowns of each bridge as some components will be reused on small bridges, however the cost will be in the order of 1.8 million (funded as per above by State Government and Council).
Council contractors are adding the finishing touches to the Deep Creek rail bridge as part of the Mary Valley Rattler track restoration works.
The 125-year old historic railway bridge is currently having its rails reinstated after a major overhaul that commenced in October last year.
Works included the replacement of defective items, including timber piles and girders on both ends of the bridge, along with new bridge sleepers.
In the coming weeks, some additional earthworks will occur under the southern end of the bridge to build up soil to provide additional support around one of the piers. This will complete the restoration works for the Deep Creek rail bridge.
