Mayor presents donation to Salvation Army - 28 February 2014

Mayor Ron Dyne presented a cheque to the value of $475 to the Salvation Army Emergency Services Fund. The funds were donated to council by Broadford Secondary College in Victoria to assist victims of flooding in the Gympie region in recent years. The school held a free dress day to raise the funds and kindly chose Gympie to forward it to.

"The donation from Broadford Secondary College was certainly a surprise, but none-the-less, council is grateful that they thought of Gympie and its residents. I am pleased to donate the funds to the Salvation Army, who assist in many ways in disaster situations including catering of the evacuation centres."

Major Peter Maynard, on behalf of the Gympie branch of the Salvation Army graciously accepted the donation from Mayor Dyne, which will be allocated to the Salvation Army Emergency Services Fund, to ensure it is used for the intended purpose.

"The funds will be spent on food stock and cooking equipment so that we are ready to go for the next emergency situation, whenever and whatever that may be" said Major Peter Maynard.
