National-grade facility is ours to celebrate

Arguably one of the biggest and best skate, scooter and BMX parks in Australia, Gympie’s new Youth Precinct is already attracting visitors from far and wide and it’s time to celebrate.

On Sunday, 17 November from 12:00noon to 4:00pm, Council is hosting an official opening of the Youth Precinct off River Road in Nelson Reserve.

The official proceedings, including a rededication of the facility by the RSL, start at 12:00noon, with free skate, scooter and BMX demonstrations, giveaways and live music from 12:40pm.

Mayor Mick Curran said that despite being called a Youth Precinct, it’s attracting a wide range of users including the young and the young at heart and is something we can all be proud of.

“Whenever I drive past, there are always heaps people making use of this fantastic facility and it makes me proud of our Council bringing this idea to life,” he said.

The Youth Precinct site has significant historical significance for the community and great care has been taken to preserve the historical elements of the building façade and name sign.

“We know how important this is for our community so we wanted to go a little further to reflect the history of this site. You’ll notice various painted elements throughout the precinct as a tribute to the site and its rich history,” said Mayor Curran.

The $2.8 million youth precinct is a joint initiative of Gympie Regional Council and the Queensland Government.
