Gympie Regional Council Tracks and Trails Plan 2014 - 5 November 2014

Gympie Regional Council has adopted its Tracks and Trails Plan 2014, after the draft plan was put out to the community for comment.

Acting Mayor, Cr. Tony Perrett said, "the plan is a significant milestone in establishing a high quality network of off-road tracks and trails for recreation walkers, mountain bike riders, and horse riders."

Cr. Perrett added, "a well-executed plan will attract visitors and tourists to the Gympie region to enjoy our natural beauty and unique landscape features, and add a high quality recreational experience to our tourism offerings."

The majority of submissions to the draft Tracks and Trails Plan concerned the proposed future consolidated shooting facility within the Curra State Forest, but Council reiterated that the tracks and trails plan does not preclude the establishment of the shooting facility and any relationship between the trails network and the proposed shooting facility will be an outcome of the shooting facility feasibility study and options analysis, with the Tracks and Trails Plan being one other element in that process.

"The Curra State Forest is a significant parcel of land that may be able to accommodate several land uses as it has done in the past and up until this point," stated Cr. Perrett.
