Imbil Water Fill Point
Imbil residents please be aware the water fill point at Imbil will be unavailable from 12pm, Tuesday 14 January to 6pm, Thursday 16 January so we can carry out some needed work on the Imbil water treatment plant. Town water supply will not be interrupted while this work is happening.
This Sunday, I will have the honour of presenting at our annual Australia Day awards.
This event will be held at the Gympie Civic Centre and acknowledges those members of our community who possess the personal attributes of community spirit, mateship, commitment and inclusiveness which this country and our community, strive to uphold. It’s truly humbling to see the work so many achieve, driven by their passion and volunteering of their own time.
At this ceremony, the Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Cultural Award, Youth Cultural Award, Sports Administration Award and Youth Sports Award will be named. This important event on our community’s calendar is open to everyone. I would encourage you all to come along and help celebrate those who have made an impact on our region. We will also be welcoming a number of new Australian citizens to our region.
I always find these events truly remarkable; not as mayor, but as a member of the community. It is extremely motivating to me to meet with those who constantly go above and beyond for causes greater than themselves.
If an awards ceremony is not quite your speed, Gympie Regional Council is opening the pools around the region, free of charge.
You can find out more information about this, including opening times, on the council website.
Also this weekend at the Gympie Youth Precinct is the Australian Skateboarding League Queensland National Street Qualifier and the Skate Australia National Park Championships.
This event is supported by Council and will offer competitors World Skate Rankings to help qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
It is events like these that help highlight our region, in this case potentially to the rest of the world.
