Drainage easements on an allotment are legal documents that grant either Council or the upstream owner/s of the land/s above the allotment a legal right to convey stormwater through, or discharge onto the allotment. The land surface area contained within any drainage easement is part of the overall allotment, the maintenance of which is the responsibility of the allotment owner.
Works or landscaping in a drainage easement may cause blocking of the natural flow of water. Altering the surface level of the land within an easement requires the prior written approval of the Design Services Division, where Council is nominated in the easement document.
