Development assessment

A development application is required for certain proposals.

The requirement to obtain approval for development is prescribed by the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 (the Act).  Section 7 of the Act defines development as:

  • carrying out building work
  • carrying out plumbing or drainage work
  • carrying out operational work
  • reconfiguring a lot
  • making a material change of use of premises.

A development approval is necessary for these developments, unless it is prescribed as ‘exempt' or ‘self-assessable' under the relevant planning scheme.

Pre-application meetings are available to discuss your proposal prior to lodging your application.
