The Conservation Plan for Memorial Park

The Conservation Management Plan for Memorial Park was adopted by Council 24 October 2018.

It provides the long term vision for one of the region’s most prominent and recognisable landmarks in the heart of the Gympie Town Centre. Memorial Park is identified on the State Heritage Register, and the Conservation Management Plan was developed to identify the heritage significance and other key attributes of the site from a cultural, built and natural aspect.

The Plan includes a prioritised program of ongoing actions to address all elements of the park including the plantings, trees and gardens, built structures, memorials and its functionality.

The adoption of this Plan shows the commitment by Gympie Regional Council to industry best practice when it comes to the ongoing maintenance and future planning for one of its most well-known public parklands that is also an important meeting place for much of the local community.

The plan will provide direction for the  ongoing management of the park’s inherent heritage values and ensure the park continues to serve as a memorial in its own rights, as well as a functional and valuable public open space now and into the future.
