On Tuesday, 26 January 2021 Australians all around the country will celebrate what’s great about Australia and the people who call Australia home. This is your opportunity to shine the spotlight on the Gympie region’s achievers; people who have contributed to our region’s culture, excelled in sport and made positive contributions to our community.

Those who donate their time to help others and lend their effort and skills to any one of the many charities, events and sporting groups that make the Gympie region a great place to live. You can nominate yourself or someone you know in one or more of these categories:
 

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Cultural Award
  • Youth Cultural Award
  • Youth Sports Award
  • Sports Administration Award
  • Community Event of the Year.

Open to all residents of the Gympie Regional Council local government area who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
 
Young Citizen of the Year
Open to all residents of the Gympie Regional Council local government area aged between 14 and 25 years in 2020 who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years.
 
Youth Cultural Award
Open to all residents of the Gympie Regional Council local government area aged between 14 and 25 years in 2020 who have made a noteworthy contribution to the cultural life of the local community or an outstanding achievement in cultural activity(ies).
 
Sports Administration Award
Open to all people who have made an outstanding contribution as a duly appointed Coach, Official, or Administrator; a “behind the scenes” organiser or promoter who has put a great deal of time and effort into a Gympie region sports team, activity or facility.
 
Cultural Award
Open to all residents of the Gympie Regional Council local government area who have made a noteworthy contribution to the cultural life of the local community or an outstanding achievement in cultural activity(ies).
 
Youth Sports Award
Open to all residents of the Gympie Regional Council local government area aged between 14 and 25 years in 2020 who have made a noteworthy record of achievement in sport.
 
Community Event of the Year

Presented to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding community event during 2020.

2021 awards entry guidelines

 

  • All nominees must be, at their date of nomination, residents of the Gympie Regional Council area

  • All organization’s that are nominated must operate predominantly in the Gympie Council region

  • Winners of the awards will be announced at Gympie Regional Council's Australia Day Awards ceremony on Tuesday, 26 January 2021

  • All nominations must have the approval of the nominee when submitting the nomination

  • Nominations close 11.00pm Monday, 30 November 2020. Nominations received after this date will be ineligible 

  • Gympie Regional Council reserves the right to accept, reject or refuse any nomination at any time. Council does not accept responsibility for lost, late or misdirected nominations

  • Gympie Regional Council may vary the terms and conditions at any time at its absolute discretion

  • All category winners will be selected by an independent judging panel. The panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into 

  • Winners for each category will be published on Council’s website

  • All nominations are the property of Council and will not be returned to entrants
