As you know the Gympie Regional Council has grown from the 2008 merger of Kilkivan Shire Council, Cooloola Shire Council and Tiaro Shire Council Division three.
It is my pleasure to be the Mayor of the inaugural Gympie Regional Council. Our Council is located in one of the most vibrant and fastest growing areas of Australia and residents are able to enjoy an enviable lifestyle. The challenges for our Region include balancing the lifestyle we all enjoy with the development which comes with growth. The increased workload of the forced amalgamation will continue for many years to come. Council is also sensitive to the other challenges which confront our community, including the proposed Traveston Crossing Dam on the Mary River, the Bruce Highway bypass and development proposals on the Coast. Gympie Regional Council seeks to continually improve the infrastructure of the Region, balancing the many needs of the community and the requirement to increase work and education opportunities. The elected representatives and staff of the Gympie Regional Council are striving to serve the community in a professional and accountable manner and your constructive input into this would be appreciated.
